Laurie moved to Crossville in 2015, when her husband was transferred here for work. Raised as a “military brat”, Laurie lived in scattered places in the U.S. – Hawaii, Connecticut, Maine, Florida (twice), Rhode Island, Washington DC, Virginia (twice), Midway Island, Georgia, and Tennessee! A life-long crafter, Laurie began crocheting and knitting when taught by her grandmothers and sewing when taught by her mom. At the FACS gift shop, you will find Laurie’s specialty – crocheted stuffed animals (known as amigurumi), as well as some cross-stitched items. Laurie raised two children and now has one grandchild. She recently retired from teaching after spending 46 years working with students ranging in age from 3 to 18!
